Manuel Gomes, PhD

Dr. Gomes is an experienced licensed psychologist with more than 15 
years of clinical experience treating individuals, families, and couples.
 

He is the owner and founder of the Washington Institute for Intimacy
and Sexual Health, LLC (WIISH).   This institute is devoted to
promoting healthy relationships and sexual health.

Dr. Gomes background includes twenty-plus years in the US Air
Force, retiring as an officer.  His duties within the Air Force included
work as a medical laboratory technician, B-52G Radar Navigator-Bombardier, and Assistant Professor at the
USAF Academy at Colorado Springs. 

His experience in the Air Force includes combat missions over
Iraq during the Persian Gulf War in 1991.  Most recently he has taught Systems Counseling at the Leadership Institute of Seattle. 

His educational background includes BS in Psychology, Masters in Human Relations, MA of Psychology (Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling) and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University.  His dissertation was titled, "The Role of Emotional Intelligence and Differentiation of Self in Fostering Intimacy." 

He belongs to several professional organizations such as the American Psychological Association, American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, the Washington State Psychological Association and International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health.

Throughout his teaching, clinical work, and the column From Both Ends, Dr. Gomes couples his professional experience with his personal commitment to promote healthy relationships.
